Flowery Elementary School Student Council
Where students can make a difference
Getting involved with the Flowery Elementary School student council allows students to have a say in what activities and events are planned during the school year. Council members are elected yearly by their classmates.
Through these activities and more, members of the council gain valuable experience in student government and become more responsible, active members of the Flowery Elementary School community.
Student Council's action plan is to improve recess. Within the 2006-2007 school year Student Council conducted a survey with the fourth and fifth graders asking them their wishes for Flowery School. The students wanted recess to be improved. So Student Council decided to host tournaments during lunch recess. In 2007 we hosted a Volleyball tournament including eight teams.
In 2008 we just finished up our First Annual Tether ball Tournament which included fifty-two students. We also participated in Mix - It - Up - Day, a simple call to action: take a new seat in the cafeteria. By making the move, students can cross the lines of division, meet new people and make new friends.
Members of the student council are expected to:
- Attend regular council meetings
- Meet with their peers to receive feedback and hear student ideas and concerns
- Volunteer at special events
- Serve as role models to other students
